Well, the cookie really crumbled today (01/29/10). I called Tyan support to find out where the Power On and Reset wires connected to the mobo. I got that info, but I found out that the OCZ memory, while very good, wasn't compatible with the mobo. I found out that I needed "registered memory." I had to do some investigating into that. If they'd called it "buffered" memory, it would have made sense. But they didn't and it didn't until I found out that what it meant was a buffer between the storage area on the dimm and the memory controller. Since I had found out about the front panel connectors, I re-routed some harneses and tried to tidy things up a bit. |

| To make a long story short, I ended up buying 16 gig more memory (WINTEC 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM ECC Registered DDR2 667.) I can't say that I'm overjoyed about it, but it had to be done. I'll try to return the OCZ memory or sell it...whatever. |

I finally powered the beast up and of course I got beep codes, since there wasn't any ram in the dimm slots. But it DID power up and the fans turned and the LEDs lit up. I guess that's progress. I won't be able to do anything about it until the new mrmory arrives, but I've got plenty of other projects to keep me occupied. I DID find out about the video out from the GDU. All I needed was an adapter (which came with the card) and I can use either the on-board video or the Radeon controller. A little more progress. |

Back to the question of where to plug the front panel wiring: at the very bottom of the photo there's an 18 pin connector. The various wires plug in there. I'll get another shot of it the next time I do some photos. The project's on hold until the memory arives. |

I figured that it wouldn't hurt to have some shots of the case as it stands waiting for the new memory (I sure wish could plug that other 16gb into the top of my head). Here it sits with the kb, mouse and monotor that I'll use while testing. |

But when I turned the lights out and did a nice long (3 to 5 second) exposure it really changed the whole persona. I'm not a gamer, but I'm hopelessly addicted to fanasty novels. I can't begin to list those in which the forces of evil have smelters and forges glowing with an evil red in the darkness as they're tended to by slaves of all races. |
| Finally, I promised a photo of the upper panel and fan mount. It looks like the 219mm fan could be replaced with a coupla 120s to provide room for an H5O unit in the back and one in the front, each cooling one CPU...or just one for both CPUs and one for the HDDs. More things to consider. Who cares, anyway? I'm havin fun and avoiding most of the stuff I otta be doing, so I'm in the old comfort zone. :) |
